SO PROUD OF THEM

One of the greatest feelings in life, I believe, is seeing planted seeds germinate, grow and flourish.

In the context of mentoring, that is how I feel about the young people shown below.

They are my sown seeds.

They are my mentees. And they are growing into their own. I am proud to see them demonstrating compassionate leadership in Kano, Nigeria.

Mentors cannot pass on the values of kindness and compassion to mentees. These things are innate. People are born with them.

But mentors can pass on to mentees the skills involved in bringing out inate values of compassion and kindness, and demonstrating this in the context of community activities.

And doing so independently.

Additionally, mentoring can help to instil in the mindsets of mentees, values such as selflessness in opposition to self-centeredness.

I am so proud to see them do what they do, and can readily see them assuming positions of leadership in their communities and indeed, in the world, in no distan
